History
History Of Wallace Gregg Elementary School
Wallace Gregg Elementary School is a rural school located in the east side of Florence County. It is one of 12 elementary schools for Florence School District One. We serve students from 5 K classes through sixth grade. Our school is small, but we offer an exceptional curriculum to meet the needs of our students.
Wallace-Gregg Elementary School is situated on land donated by two prominent civic-minded families, the Wallaces, and the Greggs. The surnames of the families were combined to name the school. A two-story brick structure stood on the original site for many years.
Following the construction of the present building in 1954 and an addition in 1960, the two-story facility was demolished in 1974. A small brick building to the right of the current building was a part of the earlier facility. This building served as the original cafeteria. Over the years, its function was changed. It housed kindergarten, compensatory programs, music, Reading Recovery, computer, resource, and art. The building was demolished to allow construction for the new wing in 2000.
The main building houses the administrative offices, eighteen classrooms, the media center, computer lab, cafeteria, and an office suite that now houses a conference room, guidance counselor, Reading Recovery, and speech clinician. The central wing was constructed and occupied in 1980. This renovation also expanded the media center to its present size.
Mobile units were added to the campus from 1991 through 1994. The mobile unit that housed the Reading Recovery training site was added in 1991. In 1992, another mobile unit was added to house a growing sixth grade. Four additional units were brought to the site in 1994. Several units have been replaced. All are used for a variety of personnel and classrooms.
Construction completed in the late summer of 2001, houses two sixth grade classrooms, the music and art classrooms, a storage closet, and new bathroom facilities for students and staff. During that construction, the covered patio located at the rear of the building was enclosed to become a multi-purpose room with a stage and storage closet and is used to house indoor P.E. facilities.
Between the summer of 2019 to the present, Spring 2021 many upgrades have been made to Wallace Gregg Elementary. In 2019 the parking lot was paved and new entry windows were installed. In 2020 the multi-purpose room was remodeled. The walls were painted, the carpet was removed, and new linoleum flooring was placed. The windows located at the front of the school were replaced. One of the two student restrooms was remodeled. Currently, the second student restroom is being remodeled.

Mrs. Sims
I am Latoya Sims, and I am the Media Specialist here at Wallace Gregg Elementary School. This is my fourth year being a Media Specialist, and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Our amazing students at this school are doing great things and they are motivating me to find interesting ways to challenge and teach them about all the different resources that our school has to offer.
Before moving to the library, I was a 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I have been here at Wallace Gregg for six years and enjoy every moment of it. I received my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University and my Masters's in Library Science from the University of South Carolina.
It is my belief that everyone can learn. Our children are our future, and we must fill their minds with all of the knowledge that it can hold so that the future is bright. One of the best ways of doing this is by getting our students involved in their learning. This can be done through books, computers, tablets, etc. Let's show the world our students!
Guidance
Mrs. Williams
My name is Mrs. Williams and I’m the School Counselor at Wallace-Gregg Elementary. I believe I have the best job in the world, because I have the opportunity of helping students succeed for a brighter future. I received my undergraduate degree from Saint Leo University and a Master’s in School Counseling from Liberty University.
My goal here at WGE is to focus on social-emotional learning in order to better help students academically and to prepare them for the future. There are a variety of strategies used to help students, such as classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions. I also collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and other stakeholders to find ways to help students thrive to their full potential.
Classroom Guidance
I visit each K-5th grade classroom monthly throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 20 minutes for K-1st and 30 minutes for 2nd-5th. These lessons cover topics such as school readiness skills, understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, friendship skills, and bullying.
Small Group Counseling
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with other students who are coping with similar life situations. Groups can have anywhere from 3-5 members and usually meet once a week for several weeks.
Individual Counseling
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling to get help with academic, social, or emotional challenges.

How can I enroll a student in the SBTP?
To enroll a student in the SBTP, a parent/legal guardian must complete and return the Parental Consent Forms to the child’s school.
If you are interested in enrolling or would like more information, please email our District Nurse, Beth Holzbach, at bholzbach@fsd1.org.
Is it mandatory for students to enroll in the SBTP?
Enrolling in the SBHC is NOT mandatory; however, it is strongly encouraged so that students may have access to quality comprehensive health care for diagnosis and treatment of illnesses such as
cough/cold, sore throat, pink eye, rashes, allergies, respiratory infections, ear infections, flu, bronchitis, and other low-acuity illnesses.
What type of care can my child receive in the SBTP?
What type of care can my child receive in the SBTP?
If your child is enrolled in the SBTP, he or she will receive the same care that they would get at the doctor's office. The SBTP can manage a student's illness or minor injury at the school; thus decreasing absenteeism from school. The SBTP will NOT provide care to students without the knowledge and consent of the parent/legal guardian. If the parent desires to join the visit, they can request an email link with the appointment time and video connection instructions.
Will the student receive a prescription medication?
Some conditions can be treated with over-the-counter medication; others require a more robust treatment plan requiring a prescription. Depending upon the provider’s assessment, the student may or may not receive a prescription. If the provider determines the treatment plan requires a prescribed medication, the prescription will be electronically sent to the local pharmacy of choice.
Is there a cost to participate in the SBTP?
Is a student required to have health insurance to be seen at the SBTP?
The program does not require any upfront costs from parents/legal guardians. If the student’s insurance has a co-pay, the parent/legal guardian may be responsible for the co-pay amount and the provider will bill the insurance company just like a typical primary care doctor’s visit. If you do not have insurance, you will be billed for the cost of the visit.
What if the student already has a doctor?
Can students from other schools access care from the SBTP?
Will the equipment allow the provider to adequately diagnose the student?
YES! The provider has video equipment in their office, allowing them to see your child through a high-definition camera and state-of-the-art equipment. The equipment used on the student’s side has multiple attachments that allow the provider to see inside the child's ear and mouth, increase the zoom to see rashes, and get key vital readings in real time.
